regICON-2015: Third Regional International Conference on Natural Language Processing
September 18-19, 2015, Punjabi University, Patiala,Punjab, India
Website: http://regicon2015.learnpunjabi.org

The Natural Language Association of India (NLPAI) has recently taken an initiative to promote NLP conferences or symposia focusing on regional languages of India. One such symposium was held in December 2014, co-located with ICON-2014 at Goa, focused on Dravidian languages. The idea is to motivate NLP work on languages of various regions of India, including those which are not "official" languages (i.e., not scheduled), and to disseminate such work to the larger community. Such a conference or symposium will allow researchers with common interests to come together and share their results and have discussions. In continuation of that policy, it has been decided that the next regional conference will be held in Patiala and it will be focused on languages of the northern region of India. The work featured at the conference will include building NLP tools and systems and creating computationally useful resources for their respective languages. Some languages of interest are Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri and Sindhi.

The conference (regICON: Regional ICON) will feature papers and presentations on various researches conducted on the theme - Indic Language Processing: Situation, Challenges and Solutions - conducted by researchers from universities and institutions from Globe. It will also include keynote talks by distinguished invited speakers and a panel discussion. We seek participation of researchers from both computer science and linguistics backgrounds.

We invite submissions of papers/Posters/Demos on topics related to the languages Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri and Sindhi that include, but are not limited to, the following:

Basic core technologies: Morphological Analysis, Disambiguation, Tokenization, POS Tagging, Named Entity Detection, Chunking, Parsing, Semantic Role Labeling, Sentiment Analysis, etc.
Linguistics: Morphology, Phonetics and Phonology, Syntax, Semantics and Pragmatics
Applications: Machine Translation, Speech Recognition, Speech Synthesis, Optical Character Recognition, Pedagogy, Assistive Technologies, Social Media, etc.
Resources: Dictionaries, Annotated Data, etc.

Papers/Posters are invited on original and unpublished work from research on all aspects of Natural Language Processing and Linguistics pertaining to languages of interest listed above. Submissions may include work in progress as well as finished work. Preference will be given to submissions having a clear focus on specific issues pertaining to languages of interest. The language of submission (the language in which the papers are written) can be any of the regional languages covered in this conference with condition that the abstract will also be in English.

Demos

We also invite one-page descriptions of interesting tools related to above mentioned topics. Authors should be ready to present demos of the tools during the conference. See Demo submission instructions below.
